Anne of Green Gables Book Club

Information

Anne of Green Gables Book Club

Each month in 2017, we'll read one of the books in the original 8 book series. (We're skipping The Blythes Are Quoted since it's difficult to find). We'll then spend the last three months learning more about Lucy Maud Montgomery's life, the impact of the Anne books on Canada and on children's literature, and explore Anne of Green Gables related recipes, crafts and new traditions. We'll watch an Anne-related film or TV show occasionally too!

I just looked at that Anne of Green Gables Treasury book and was thrilled to see the maps and even crochet patterns.  I was so excited!

Hi all,   I am sorry I missed the meeting last night.  For some reason I was thinking it was tonight, apparently too much snow is in my brain.  When is the next meeting and what chapter are we supposed to get to?

HI. I'm Amy. I'm from Toronto. I'm new here and trying to figure all of this out. Have loved Anne ever since I was a child and read the whole series. I fell in love with the tv mini-series too - particularly Megan's portrayal of Anne. Years ago, while living overseas I found Anne of Green Gables at a bookstore and was able to enjoy it all over again, purchased the miniseries on DVD and watch it often. Have never been to PEI but would love to visit someday.

Forgot to mention that I'm originally from the Oregon coast, but live near Richmond, VA now. I told my husband we have to make the trip to PEI before we ever leave the east coast. It's a dream trip!

Hello, my name is Shannon.  I was born and raised in a small town in NW PA, but currently reside in a small town in central NC.

My Grandmother Beulah love Anne of Green Gables, so I guess my love for her began when I was a little girl.  When Grandma passed away, we even buried her with a copy of the first book.  Cherished memories.  I love the movies starring Meghan Follows, but not the new one so much.  <3

I assume we are reading at our own pace and can post comments as we like. I just finished the chapter where Anne apologizes to Rachel Lynde.  I was first turned on to AOGG by the mini series in the 80s. I think I read the first book in the series once several years ago, but liked the TV series so much I didn't bother reading anymore. So, I'm really looking forward to reading the books now. I have to say, the 80s mini series stays very true to the first book (at least what I've read so far). In several places while I read I could see and hear the actors from the show. Megan Follows is by far the best Anne ever. However, I also think that the other actors in the 80s mini series did a good job of playing the roles that LM Montgomery wrote in the book. Matthew as shy and unassuming, Marila as staunch and strict (with a bit of a sense of humor), and Rachel as the gossipy, know-it-all neighbor. Now that I'm reading the books, I can't wait to watch the series again! It's been MANY years since I've watched. Sorry for the long post, but enjoying the camaraderie of this group!
